​Space is generally available for rising 3rd and 4th graders (current 2nd and 3rd graders).  

 

Applications will also be considered for rising 5th through 9th graders (current 4th – 8th graders) for a few openings in those grades, primarily through attrition.

 

General Application Criteria

The Dr. Frank S. Greene Scholars Program is committed to the mission of expanding access for Bay Area Black students to STEM careers.  High-achieving elementary and middle school students with interest in science, math and technology are encouraged to apply.  Elementary school applicants must be in good academic standing; middle school applicants must have at least a 2.75 GPA.

 

Program Highlights

  • Monthly STEM enrichment curriculum, including hands-on learning and activities

  • Annual Science Fair, Career Day & Engineering Competition

  • Week-long Summer Science Institutes – day camps for elementary, middle and high schoolers

  • College prep activities, including SAT test prep, college admission, and scholarship search

 

Program Investments

  • This is not a drop-off program. GSP requires a commitment from the family.

  • Parents are required to donate 40 hours per year supporting GSP programming.

  • Parents are required to attend Saturday parent or family sessions in August, October, March and June (some virtual, some in person).

  • Scholars are required to attend 7 of 10 monthly Saturday sessions (8:45am - 1:00pm), and participate in the annual Science Fair.

 

Application Components

  • Application form – sections for household responses; parent responses to student questions; student responses to student questions

  • Copy of student’s most recent grade report (PDF or JPG format)

  • Recent headshot (PDF or JPG format - cell phone photo is fine)

  • Email address for your student’s reference (e.g. a teacher; family members should not serve as references).

Our Mission:  The Dr. Frank S. Greene Scholars Program helps youth of African ancestry in San Francisco Bay Area communities successfully pursue higher education in science, technology, engineering and/or math (STEM), and serve as positive role models and contributors to their communities.
